5 quilts August 22, 2022 from Making A Lather

 last  report August 5th

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - orange- playing catch up on my star and crown blocks in purple. I don't think I will be making any of these blocks for the orange month, although, I haven't looked in my stash. There may be a cheddar or a smokey orange. We will see.

2. rhododendren mystery - hunter -    I have found the blocks. But that is another story here. I soaked and washed the stained blocks, and, I have started with the short rows. I am having a hard time with the directional blocks.

it's a beginning ...

waffle retirement from Making A Lather

I have the orange waffle stamp blocks finished for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy, in orange. I have added over 100 blocks this year. But, I am retiring this project to the ufo closet to wait it's turn for assembly.

and pink

We grew sweet corn this year. And it worked. All our lives we have been near seed corn, and as a courtesy didn't grow it. So, this is new to us. We wondered with our critter problem this year, if we would even find our ears of corn gone one morning. We have a ...

 last July 8, 2022

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - orange- I made a few bow ties, even orange. With the announcement of the new leader/ender challenge from Quiltville, I decided to look back at the ones I have started and not finished, rather than start the new one. This was the earliest one I have not finished, and, I sorted it out and decided to work on this for a bit. If my calculations are correct, I only need 30 + more little blocks to start a top.

2. rhododendren mystery - hunter -    I have found the blocks. But that is another ...

3. Boho heart -Nothing new here. I am at a part that intimidates me. I can't just pick up something and quickly sew it together, so I procrastinate.

4. maple leaves - I need ...

just a few more from Making A Lather

I thought I was done with the waffle stamp blocks for the month. I needed to cut 1 1/2 inch squares for the easy breezy blocks I am making. While I was digging around, I found more short pieces and just thought I would sew a couple. Then, after making a few sets, I found shirt strips, and thought I would sew them together for future 4 or 9 patches. And finally, why not add a few more waffle stamp blocks.

It was a 1 1/2 inch kind of day.

waffling from Making A Lather

I cut several sets of 1 1/2 inch strips for waffle stamp blocks in blue for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. But, I ran out of the pieced middles. I thought I had made some ahead. sigh...

Sew, my sewing session involved sewing short strips together in sets of 5. I do enjoy doing this. It is a therapeutic way to sew and go with the flow. I have used most of my short strips and will have to adopt another benchmark for sewing these strips. I haven't been cutting scraps lately, maybe that will sort ...

5 quilts June 8, 2022 from Making A Lather

My last 5 quilt progress report May 30

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - blue- I am working on the rainbow scrap challenge colors that I didn't sew during the past months. waffle stamp blocks require the 1/12 inch block centers that have to be pieced ahead, before I can put them together. I did make the candy blocks in blue.

2. rhododendren mystery - hunter -   I finally cut the 1 inch squares I needed for the mystery quilt.

3. Boho heart - The first section on the left is together. Time to make a few blocks for the next section.

waffle sky from Making A Lather

I am guessing I only meant to cut more waffle stamp blocks this year for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. because, when I went to sew this month's color, I found several piles of pieces of other colors. I did finish green and red this month. I can get lost in making the strips for the 1 1/2 inch center blocks. And I can always dig up an odd piece of 1 1/2 inch that I can use. So, I just keep making them, and there is no stopping. There is always a partial piece ...

hunters star and waffles from Making A Lather

This is the last week in April for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I finished cutting and sewing for my Hunter's star

Then, I felt that I had enough of a variety to try putting 2 blocks together and see how it looks. I think I am going to like it a lot.

I made s few waffle stamp blocks in pink to finish the month. I thought I had made all the blocks I would need last year, but, somehow I was very short when I tried to put them together. I think I misplaced some ...

waffle stamp blocks progress from Making A Lather

I still have waffle blocks in process. I had a bit of extra time at friday group and started putting 4 blocks of 2 together. It will definitely be a busy quilt. I began this quilt as part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. It is a great scrap buster using 1 1/2 inch pieces.

But, There has to be missing blocks somewhere. There isn't as many as I thought I made. Am I going crazy? I thought I had cut for 160 + blocks. I only have half that.

waffle progress from Making A Lather

I have just a few more waffle stamp blocks. After my daughter and her family left for her home so very far away, I sewed some random blocks to keep from tears. It really didn't work. But, I made a little progress

I just realize that I have to start the upper right block of each block in the same direction for the waffle stamp blocks. sigh...

on the go top from Making A Lather

this past week I started working on an older ufo - on the go. It was a kit I bought in 2014 for a donation quilt. It is bright and colorful and easy. I added the outside borders this morning. It was raining or I would have a better picture. I have fabric for the binding, but, I will need to find a suitable backing in my stash. Then, it will live with the other quilts waiting to be quilted.

My radishes are ready for harvesting. I picked a mild radish, and, it is too hot for me. Good thing the ...

quilt waffles from Making A Lather

We have felt the aftermath of the tropical storm elsa here in Indiana. Lots of rain and mild winds hit yesterday, and, it looks like more rain today. The garden is happy, the gardener not so much.

coreopsis -good for disinfection and metabolic disorders and it is pretty

It is always a pleasure when the quilt is off the floor at the longarm. I am making progress on aunt eliza's star. It is a big quilt. I am doing swirls, nothing fancy.

I have a few waffle blocks left to make. I need to make more pieced rows for ...

waffling from Making A Lather

I started working with my sea swept sashing blocks. I ran into an either or decision that has  me paused. Either, I make the economy square with actual size pieces, and use up triangle pieces already cut, or, I cut new oversized pieces and trim down to the right size.

So, while I am waffling about that decision, I made more waffle stamp blocks. Pun intended.

Each block is a surprise when it is finished. I enjoy that. I have made a huge dent in the 1 1/2 inch strip and squares bins.
